Gustav Klimt – Sunflower
Sunflower” ( Die Sonnenblume )
Gustav Klimt (1862–1918) , founder of the Vienna Secession movement, is one of the most original artists who explored nature alongside the human figure with profound spiritual depth. Klimt's nature-themed works are not simply landscape depictions but poetic symbols of the cycle of life, the energy of light, and existence .
"Sunflower" ( Die Sonnenblume ) is the artist's most iconic flower painting, combining his profound observation of nature with his symbolic interpretation. A single sunflower rises vertically at the center of the composition. Its surroundings create a field of color filled with dense green foliage and floral textures. This arrangement represents both the simplicity and richness of nature.
Here, Klimt depicts the sunflower not simply as a plant, but as an entity representing the continuity of life and the symbolic power of the sun . The rhythmic transitions of gold, yellow, green, and turquoise tones evoke the vibration of light on the surface. Each brushstroke carries both decorative and emotional energy.
The work was created during the artist's nature-filled summer spent around Lake Attersee. During this period, Klimt moved beyond simply observing nature and interpreted it as a state of mind and a symbolic universe . " Sunflower" ( Die Sonnenblume ) is one of the purest and most elegant examples of this understanding.

Good to Know
If you want to purchase your print with a frame, make sure the print size you choose is compatible with the frame .
All frames in our collection are offered with a mat, but you can also choose to use them without a mat.
The table below will help you choose the right frame size for your print size.
The mockup images on the product page are for the purpose of showing the frame in person. Therefore, some mockups may appear cropped or ill-fitting.
The product you order is prepared in the frame you see in the main image of the work , preserving its original proportions.
If the artwork size and frame size are not exactly the same (for example, a 19×28 cm print in a 20×30 cm frame), the print will be placed centered in the frame and thin white spaces may naturally occur around the edges.
This practice is done intentionally to ensure that no detail of the work is lost and the original proportions are preserved.
